What services do you provide?
MKID (Melissa Klebanoff Interior Design) is a full-service interior design company offering expertise in all aspects of interior design. Services include design conception, specifying and sourcing materials and finishes, space planning, purchasing, budgeting, and project management.
What is your design process like?
The first steps always begin with understanding our client’s needs and the project’s scope. Projects range in size and scope, so the process is adjusted accordingly. From a simple color consultation to a large multi-family project, each client benefits from an individualized approach that focuses on the client’s vision and needs. Many factors are taken into consideration in designing a space including the surrounding environment, existing architecture, projected use of the space, budgets, stylistic preferences, and timelines.
How do you charge for your projects?
Given projects vary in scope and size, MKID offers several different programs for compensation. Small consulting projects are invoiced a flat fee. Mid-sized projects are typically billed at an hourly rate combined with a 20% upcharge on wholesale prices. Often building materials, fixtures, furnishings, etc. are not available to the public at these discounts or are sold strictly “to the trade.” Our clients often enjoy a discount from retail prices and/ or have access to items not available to the public. Large projects that require many months or years to complete are billed at a percentage of the total project or for a negotiated flat fee.
Can I be involved in the design process?
We consider the collaboration between client and designer to be among the most important aspects of the design process. Our main objective is ensuring your vision is expressed in ways that exceed expectations. We work closely with our clients from design conception through to completion and we pride ourselves on our transparency and the integrity of our work product. Our job is to provide design expertise and guidance that aligns with our clients’ vision while rigorously managing the design details, communications, and budgets – insuring regular communications and updates between designer and client.
